Clio awards

Print

Company: FedEx
This print advertisement shows a FedEx box in the center, and a trumpet (I think it's a trumpet) poking out of both sides. First I didn't 'get it', but later I think it means that no matter what you want them to deliver, it's definitely going to get received by the right person. One of the stratergies this ad used is warmth (I think), because when someone sees this ad they feel comfortable with FedEx. I noticed that the skin colour of the two hands are different, so it probably means they can deliver anything to anywhere.

Poster

Company: 123Fleurs - Flowers online delivery
This is a poster advertisement for an online site that you can order flowers from. It shows two planes crashing in midair, and in the down right corner it says 'Flowers would have been a better idea'. I think the target audience for this advertisement is probably couples or people who are in love, because the planes are making a heart. One of the strategies used is dramatic action, because the planes are just bursting into a ball of flames.

Billboard

Earth hour
This billboard advertisement is about Earth Hour. It basically says that if you care about the environment, you should turn off your lights for one hour, because not a lot of people will want to write to the government or something if they don't like the idea of cutting trees down, so this is a sort of 'silent demonstration'. One of the strategies used in this ad is do the right thing, because they want to tell you that saving the environment is the right thing to do.

Buddy letter

Dear Chen Yen Jan,

My name is Cathy Bai, and I'm from China. I've been in JIS for two years (I came to JIS at the start of fifth grade). I'm going to tell you some things about Middle School that's different from Elementry.

The biggest difference is probably the blue and white days (you probably know that already). You have different schedules on blue and white days. On the 'star' days you just swich the time for your two electives or PE class. You have two teachers for you core classes, one that teaches math and science, and another one that teaches english and social studies. Normally one is a male and one is a female.

There are some things that's 'only six grade'. For example, the Performer's concert. If you play an instrument, or like to sing you can sign up to perform infront of the six grade. We've had people do some strange tricks too, like hockey tricks and powerpoints. We also have MS madness days, when teachers put you into different 'volcanoes' and you can go to different activities.

The cafeteria is also different. There are different stores on two floors, including pizzas, japanese food, and other stuff. You buy your tickets and go to the stores to buy food. My favorites are the noodles and the kebabs.

The after school activities are different too. In middle school we call them clubs. There will be a 'club day' when all the clubs will have a little table by the Bali Stage, and you can go around the field and sign up for the clubs you like. Some include rock climbing, crafts club, scuba diving club and endangered species club. There are also intramurals, but you have to sign up online.

If I didn't make something clear, please tell me. If you have any questions, you can ask me too! (you can also send me an e mail, it's 28792@jisedu.or.id)

Regards,
Cathy Bai

Mystery

My mystery story is probably going to be about a murder in a hotel. The detective is meeting a few of his friends (doctors) to discuss about something, but in the evening after they came back from dinner, they found one of their friends dead in the hotel. The suspects were his friends, because they were the only ones that know the victim. The detective finds evidence and identifies the killer, who confess and explains that he killed the victim because the victim killed a patient so her theories for an illness would be considered true.

US airways flight 1549 incident recount

Just eight minutes after takeoff, the co-pilot of Flight 1549 discovered his windshield covered with geese. Then after a loud bang, the co-pilot found out that both of the engines were shut down, and the plane was already loosing altitude in a short time. He reports this situation to the pilot, Sullenberg, a veteran of the airline for twenty three years. Sullenberg instantly responds to the situation. The cockpit voice recording shows that the 'Pilot have calmly discused where they are able to land with the ground engineers'.
Then, the pilot decided to land in the river, because they won't make it flying back to the airport. Sullenberg had a glider license, but the river was too near. If they continue at this rate of descend, they will miss the 'runway'. So the pilots tried to slow their aircraft by lifting moving plates of metal on both wings (this helps increase drag).
During the landing, the front of the aircraft felt a big vibration, and the back felt a bigger one, like the whole plane was twisted. The pilots opened the doors and ordered passengers and crew to evacuate. One passenger tried to open the rear door, and water gushed in. All passengers and crew evacuated safely.
